Things to know about Inkjet printers
- Always run a color print job once a week. Any longer and the print heads may start to dry out and never recover.
- Never leave the printer without cartridges installed. Depending on the model of printer, leaving the printheads exposed will dry them out.
- Never use third party cartridges.
- Be careful "stocking up" on cartridges. If the printer fails and requires replacement, those cartridges are useless.
- Never reuse paper that has ink on it. Dirties up the feed rollers.
- Always buy a printer with a usable display. Purchasing printers with nothing but lights makes things difficult.
- If you don't need photo quality prints, steer away from Photo printing capable printers. Regular inkjet printers have simpler paper handling mechanics. Less prone to breakage.
- We typically recommend HP inkjet printers and Brother laser printers. Epson printers are good for photo-quality prints, but they tend to be delicate printers. With most Epson printers, you must run print jobs at least once a week.
- Make sure the connections to the printer have at least USB and Wireless.
- If printing from phones and tablets will be required, make sure the printer comes with iPrint capabilities for Apple products. For Android users, it's much more complicated.
