Increase Internet text size

You are at the mercy of the website when it comes to the size of text and images. On desktop and laptop computers there is an easy way to increase the size of everything while still looking good, without distortion. You may have experimented a bit with text size only but found that it tends to distort the text in weird ways.

A better way to view website content is to “zoom” into the entire website, instead of just making certain things larger. To do such a thing, read on.

Chrome

  1. Start Chrome normally.
  2. Click the three vertical dots at the upper right.
  3. In the middle you will see the “Zoom” option. Bumping it to 110%, 125%, or 150% can make a big difference. This applies to the website you are currently visiting, but in some cases it may increase the size of other websites also.
  4. To make it so every website is enlarged, click the three vertical dots again.
  5. Click “Settings” at the bottom
  6. Scroll or look in the middle of the screen for a setting called “Page Zoom” and set it accordingly.

We have also seen where this setting gets changed inadvertently. We will see computers come in where the website text and images are very small. The zoom setting is down to 70% or less. The default setting is 100%.

Pro Tip: Press the CTRL key and tap the “+” or “-” keys to zoom in and out quickly.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Start Edge normally
  2. Click the three horizontal dots at the upper right.
  3. Adjust the Zoom setting at the top as needed. 100% is the default.
  4. When you exit and re-enter, it should remember the setting for all websites.
  5. If you don’t need it zoomed for all websites, put it back to 100%.

Pro Tip: Press the CTRL key and tap the “+” or “-” keys to zoom in and out quickly.

One more thing

You will notice that when you zoom in on a website, everything gets larger. But, it may get so large that it starts to disappear on the left and right sides of the screen. This is where wide screen monitors are an advantage. The bigger the screen, the more you can zoom and still see the left and right sides of the website. Square monitors will cut off the sides of the website pretty quickly.
