Comments:

  • This is an excellent home or business computer that uses a conventional case style. It contains all of the features we’ve offered throughout the years.
  • The primary advantage to this is that more accessories such as cards and additional hard drives can be easily installed internally.
  • The DVD drive is horizontal which we have found to be more convenient than vertical. Older folks or those with limited mobility find the horizontally mounted drive easier to work with.
  • The overall size is a bit smaller than the classic case style. The height makes it more convenient to put it on the floor and have the power button and DVD drive reasonably accessible without too much bending over.

Things to be aware of:

  • No DVI video port. Can use a simple HDMI > DVI adapter cable if needed.
  • DVD Playback software included.
  • The included mouse and keyboard are of a very basic quality. Best used as spares.
  • Serial port Included.

Extended Warranty:

  • Dell offers an extended hardware and accidental damage warranties that we may recommend, especially for businesses where downtime is unacceptable.
  • They have the “ProSupport” and “ProSupport Plus” warranties. The “Plus” covers accidental damage. Occasionally Dell will offer the “Plus” warranty at the “ProSupport” price.
  • Whether or not to take advantage of it depends on your tolerance for downtime. We have found that there is a low chance it will be needed on desktops, higher on laptops. In fact, we strongly encourage purchasing extended warranties on laptops due to their fragile nature.

  • No VGA port, which is the oldest style of video connector. We would want to make sure your monitor has a DVI, HDMI, or Display Port connector. There are adapters available to convert to VGA, but they don’t work well.
